Rocket Dogs
Part of my collection of recipes for Moon Day. Easy to make, fun, and tasty!
Ingredients
- Beef sausage or hotdog (or veggie versions)
- Puff Pastry
- Potato, washed and peeled, cut into triangles
- Oil or egg wash
- Wood Skewers
Method
- Preheat oven to 200 (Celsius)
- Slice pastry into 1-inch wide strips
- Construct your rockets:
- Insert skewer through the middle of the face of one potato triangle to make the rocket fins
- Thread potato’ed skewer through one end of the pastry, and lengthways through the middle of your hotdog, to amke the rocket body. Leave enough space for something to something to be placed on top of the hotdog.
- Wrap pastry around hotdog in a spiral, threading the skewer back in at the tip of the hotdog
- Poke skewer through the middle of the side of another potato triangle to make the tip of the rocket.
- Brush with oil or egg
- Bake in the oven for 30 minutes, flipping halfway through
- Serve with your choice of sauces!
Tips
- Other recipes I've seen for rocket dogs use hard cheese like jack or cheddar instead of potato, but I find those melt pretty easily
- For a crispy potato, dust your potatos in some cornstarch and/or spices before skewering!
- To make sure your skewers dont burn in the oven, soak them for at least an hour in some cold water. You can also use metal skewers but they tend to be hot when coming out of the oven.
